Animals After the Storm 02/24/2010
When I woke up this morning, I looked out our farm house bedroom window to see how much snow we got. The view out this particular window shown very little new snow on the lawn, so I thought we didn't get much more snow through the night. But I was surprised when I stepped outside to go over to Porter House. It snowed more than I thought, the snow had blown around leaving some areas looking like less snow and other areas with feet of snow. In the morning Todd did a great job plowing the Porter House driveway and parking lot and then went to plow the farm driveway. At Porter House, we have a very nice blacktop parking lot. Up to 6 cars can be parked easily. The parking lot is designed for easy driving in and out. I need lots of room when I am backing up so we made sure if I could do it safely then others will be able to also. There is a handicap spot with a loading apron available right next to a rail that leads to the front door. In the afternoon, Patty spotted some turkeys out eating in the corn field. Then later when the turkeys were gone the deer showed up. All I can figure was the wildlife stayed in the woods during the snow storm and now were hungry for a treat of corn. Add Comment Deer Grazing 02/17/2010
We watched 5 deer grazing tonight. They were a little closer than normal. We could see 2 larger deer and 3 smaller deer. They came out shortly before dark and were still grazing there when it became dark. As the days grow longer maybe we will be able to watch them a little longer. Deer Crossing 02/15/2010
I knew it was just a matter of time before I was going to be able to report seeing deer from our living room windows. They started to show up shortly before dark. Todd and Patty were watching them for a while before they told me. When I started watching there was already 12 of them out. Then three more came running over the hill. The smaller ones were running here and there while the larger ones were eating. We could see them eating right up to when it got dark. Last year around this same time of the year, the workers building this new building were seeing the deer every night. At first it was 12- 15 and then a few days later they started to see over 30 deer. The Porter House home borders a hay field which in turn borders a corn field. The corn was picked late in the season, so both the Turkeys and deer are finding some left behind corn to eat. Soon we will be able to enjoy showing the deer off to our new residents. Turkey Night 02/10/2010
Last night at about this same time we were fortunate be able to see approximately 64 turkeys from our dining room table. We can't wait until we can share these wonderful viewing moments with our residents. | AnnOwner and Director of ArchivesMay 2010 CategoriesAll |
